What is a business consultant?

Consultant has become a bit of a polluted word.

Not only is it very buzz heavy, it’s often wrongly associated. At best what’s conjured in the mind is a militant sales whip, focusing your team on their number goals above all, like a high school football coach driving to win at any cost. At worst, the imagery evoked is that of a man, perhaps only one half step above the used car salesman we see in comedies, offering empty but very expensive advice.

You either get tactical or strategy, rarely both.

With that said, I think it’s important to note that semantics ebb and flow. It’s not the phrase “business consultant” that needs improvement. It’s in how the role is executed and the way the philosophy around it is discussed.

I’m writing this, because it’s actually a question people search for on Google, “What is a business consultant?”

Here’s my take on it.

We’ve all met the people-oriented leader who builds a team without focus on costs or a plan for growth, or the leader who focuses heavily on sales without a great training plan or clarity of mission for the team members. Sustainable success in business requires balanced attention in more than one discipline.

It’s tactical but also strategic.

As a business consultant, I’m constantly evaluating and aligning four key business areas: People, Sales, Profit, and Self. As a company, Well Coached is also dedicated to preserving the culture, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that gives your company momentum while maintaining balance and instilling structure for new horizons.

Balance between People, Sales, Profits and Self is the common denominator for success.

The definition of a business consultant is a professional individual with experience and expertise that is able to guide you in striking that balance and co-piloting with you on your journey to success and growth.

As a business co-pilot, Chris Weinberg has watched many businesses face similar challenges at the same point in their journey. With coaching and consulting, Chris and Well Coached preserves the culture, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that gave your company momentum while maintaining balance and instilling structure for new horizons.
